Analects 5:11. Tzu-kung said, "What I do not want others to do to me, I do not want to do to them." Confucius said, "Ah T'zu! That is beyond you."

Analects 5:12. Tzu-kung said, "We can hear our Master's [views] on culture and its manifestations, but we cannot hear his views on human nature and the Way of Heaven [because these subjects are beyond the comprehension of most people]."

Analects 5:25. Yen Yuan and Chi-lu were in attendance. Confucius said, "Why don't you each tell me your ambition in life?" Tzu-lu said, "I wish to have a horse, a carriage, and a light fur coat and share them with friends, and shall not regret if they are all worn out." Yen Yuan said, "I wish never to boast of my good qualities and never to brag about the trouble I have taken [for others]." Tzu-lu said, "I wish to hear your ambition." Confucius said, "It is my ambition to comfort the old, to be faithful to friends, and to cherish the young."

Analects 5:27. Confucius said, "In every hamlet of ten families, there are always some people as loyal and faithful as myself, but none who love learning as much as I do."
